The United States may often be passed over by more 'adventurous' travellers, in favour of less familiar, more rugged travel experiences.
But this vast nation offers a wealth of incredibly varied experiences, which can be enjoyed without even having to take a flight.
Our USA road trip took us from ritzy Las Vegas, up the California coast via a few national parks, and further north to San Francisco and Napa Valley; all accomplished with a trusty hire car, a packed iPod and an appetite to try every single road-side diner we passed. Some with delightful results - home-made chilli with crispy fried onions and grated cheese, at a retro diner off Route 66 - others less so... Still, an amazing trip and certainly a fast food education!
After that, a trip to Yellowstone was followed by a break from driving, and a flight over to the Big Apple for a taste of city life.
