Qatar may have had some bad press around its acquisition of and preparation for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. But the fact remains, its a country that has been clever with its expansion plans.

As such, the capital city of Doha is expanding slowly and carefully, with an eye on preserving that rich local heritage which is so appealing to foreign visitors.
Of course, the slow pace of work means city centre traffic is hellish - and does raise questions about how ready this destination will be for the football crowds...
But for a visitor seeking out a sense of old Arabia, Doha has a surprising amount to offer.
